Analysis of Lightfastness of TRYIT Inks

When the photo-resistance of a reactive inkjet artwork is considered, it is necessary to consider the use of a substrate or a medium. The light resistance of the ink also depends on the factors such as the coating, storage, and display conditions of the substrate surface.

We do not advocate placing a printed color image of the user's ink in an outdoor area. Long-term exposure of color images to sunlight will fade. It is also very susceptible to discoloration of varying concentrations of different emulsions after image formation, and different print substrates have different expected lightfastness.

Materials placed on the wall of the house will be much lighter than those placed outdoors in the sun and under all weather conditions. Another issue that has an impact on the evaluation of the lightfastness of a printout is the judgment of the colorpoint. For example, if yellow light resistance is poor on the same print product, human eyes will easily and quickly capture changes in the yellow hue to judge that the print product is not acceptable, but if they fade together, the situation will be much better.

A portion of the sun's ultraviolet rays can cause the dye on the printed image to fade. There are many systems on the market that use inkjet printers to remake photographs, but none of them are designed for long-term preservation of photos outdoors. Of course, if photographs are placed in an album that is not sun-dried, they can be stored for many years because they are not exposed to light.

If the prints are coated with a special coating or protected by some UV rays, they may have longer light resistance.

The criteria for the indoor light preservation conditions for printing pictures will be divided into three parts according to the display conditions:
1. Indoor: No direct sunlight and at least 7 feet away from the window. The optical density received by the printed image is 500 LUX/12 hours. Most of the inkjet pictures and even those photos with poor lightfastness can be used in this environment. Stay for 6 months - 2 years do not fade.

2. No direct sunlight, but the intensity of light under the spotlight of the museum and the exhibition hall is twice that of the first case, and the lightfastness of the picture is half of the first case.

3, there is moisture and direct sunlight for more than half a day, as we saw in the swimming pool and aquarium, the picture lightfastness is 1/5 of the first case, that is to say, in the indoor can store pictures of the year This bad condition can only be released for 2 months.

Pigment ink is a special substrate with strong light resistance, so it can be recommended for users who want to place inkjet works outdoors for more than 1 month. This pigment ink must not only have strong lightfastness, but also must be able to withstand high temperatures, rain, and sun exposure while covering the surface.

There are two kinds of light resistance test methods: 1. Adding accelerated sun-fast test, using xenon lamp. 2, the sample exposure; sample exposure test must be tested in the sun room for more than 3 months in order to identify whether it can weather for more than 1 year. Of course, black pigment inks can withstand light for quite some time because they are made from carbon pigments, and more accurate lightfastness assessments require testing of the relevant substrate's lightfastness parameters.
