The National Furniture Quality Supervision and Inspection Center is an authoritative institution affiliated with the Shanghai Quality Supervision and Inspection Technology Research Institute. Established in 1982, it was initially authorized by the Shanghai Technical Supervision Bureau as the Shanghai Furniture Quality Supervision and Inspection Station. In 1983, the center received official recognition from the Ministry of Light Industry as the Furniture Quality Supervision and Inspection Center under its jurisdiction. A major milestone came in 1989 when it was officially approved by the State Bureau of Technical Supervision to become the National Furniture Quality Supervision and Inspection Center. In 1999, the center was accredited by the China National Accreditation Board for Laboratories, further solidifying its position as a trusted testing authority. It is also recognized as a testing laboratory by the China Quality Certification Center, playing a key role in furniture quality assurance across the country. As one of the earliest professional institutions in China, the center has been conducting comprehensive furniture inspections, including testing, standard revision, equipment development, and scientific research. Its facilities are among the most advanced in the domestic furniture industry, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and a wide range of testing capabilities. The center's testing equipment includes over 10 large-scale instruments, with a total fixed asset value of 4 million yuan. The laboratory spans 2000 square meters and features specialized equipment such as furniture physical and chemical testing systems, sofa and mattress testing machines, color fastness friction testers, electronic universal testing machines for artificial boards, intelligent artificial climate culture cabinets, atomic absorption spectrophotometers, and visible spectrophotometers. All inspection equipment aligns with current national standards, ensuring accurate and reliable results. The center has the capability to test 56 different product categories, including wood, metal, upholstered, and kitchen furniture, as well as hardware accessories, leather, textiles, and more. Testing covers physical, mechanical, durability, and hazardous substance assessments, making it a comprehensive resource for furniture quality evaluation. In addition to its testing functions, the center serves as the National Furniture Standardization Center. It plays a leading role in revising national and industry standards for the furniture sector and is actively involved in international standardization efforts. As a P member of the ISO/TC136 Furniture Technology Committee, the center has contributed to the drafting of 33 national standards and 32 industry standards, significantly influencing the development of furniture regulations in China. It was also the first institution in the country to introduce and implement furniture mechanical and physical-chemical testing standards and methods from international organizations like ISO. This commitment to innovation and quality ensures that the center remains at the forefront of furniture testing and standardization in China.
