The Bounds Are Limitless With Sara Story’s Contemporary Designs
Since founding her namesake design firm, Sara Story has carved out a distinct niche in the world of interior design. Her projects are infused with an unmistakable style that reflects her unique perspective. Drawing inspiration from her extensive travels, a deep appreciation for contemporary art and fashion, and a disciplined approach to living, Sara brings a sharp eye to every project she undertakes. Her designs are characterized by their clean lines, refined elegance, and comfortable sophistication, creating spaces that feel effortlessly polished yet welcoming.
Sara earned a B.F.A. from the University of San Diego and an Interior Architecture degree from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Her work gained significant attention after her renovation of a townhouse at Gramercy Park, which led to recognition in prominent design circles. Elle Décor named her one of the "Top 5 to Watch," and NY Spaces listed her among the Top 50 Designers in New York. In 2019, one of her residential projects was featured in The 1stdibs 50 and was a finalist in Interior Design’s Best of the Year Awards. The following year, her firm made the LUXE Gold List. Sara’s projects have also graced the pages of Architectural Digest, Interior Design, Galerie, LUXE, Aspire, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times.
Sara serves as a Board Member of Ballroom Marfa, a contemporary art space in Marfa, Texas, where she supports artistic expression through impactful cultural initiatives. She is also actively involved in the Americas Society and the Design Leadership Network, further demonstrating her commitment to fostering creativity and innovation.
Always pushing boundaries, Sara's firm continues to take on residential and commercial projects across the globe while maintaining successful product collaborations. In 2012, she introduced a wallpaper collection that reimagines traditional Asian motifs for a modern audience with both classic and edgy tastes. Her second wallpaper line, inspired by her passion for travel, debuted in 2015. In 2019, she collaborated with SA Baxter Hardware on a collection titled “Center Point.†For someone who competes annually on a championship elephant polo team, the possibilities are indeed endless.
