Snowman Ornament For Kids

This year, we've been really into creating transparent decorations, and it all began with crafting these beautiful, glowing transparent Christmas crackers. Their shimmering appearance under the soft glow of Christmas lights is absolutely breathtaking. Just after reading "Snowmen at Night" by Caralyn and Mark Buehner, I was inspired to design a unique Christmas ornament for kids using transparent materials. The story's magical premise—where snowmen transform at night, appearing slightly different each day—was something I wanted to capture in our project. So, I decided to create an ornament that would change its appearance every time you give it a gentle shake. Creating a Snowman Ornament for Kids This project is a mix between a traditional toilet roll snowman and a modern take on a transparent bauble. For this, you'll need sheets of acetate, which is clear plastic. I also used a small electric tea light at the base, though you could simply tape the bottom instead. Here's a list of everything you’ll need: What You Will Need To Make The Snowman Ornament - Acetate sheets - Light source (electric tea light) - Googly eyes - Black craft foam cut into circles - Orange pipe cleaner - Glitter - Sequins For the Snowman’s Hat: - Felt - Pom-pom - White cotton wool How To Make The Snowman Ornament The process is straightforward, though younger children might need assistance rolling the acetate. All you need is a small piece, which you can secure with sticky tape. Stick the acetate around the light source. Next, decorate your snowman however you like. We used googly eyes and foam circles for the face, securing everything with double-sided tape. To simplify for younger hands, I created the hat using two semi-circles glued together with PVA glue. Older kids could sew the pieces together, or you can assist them. Before placing the hat on the ornament, fill the snowman’s body with glitter and sequins. You can fill it to the brim or leave a bit of space. Alternatively, you could add salt for a different effect. Once hung on the tree, the ornament looks stunning with light shining through. It even functions a bit like a snow globe since shaking it creates changing patterns. These ornaments look fantastic alongside other Christmas decorations like our bead Christmas tree ornaments and snow globe ornaments. There’s something truly magical about these transparent creations, and they’ve added such a special touch to our holiday decor.
