Snowman Ornament For Kids

This year, we’ve really gotten into creating transparent decorations, and it all began with making these stunning see-through Christmas crackers. Honestly, they’re not only beautiful but also glow magnificently under the soft glow of holiday lights. I remember finding this idea while scrolling through Pinterest late one evening, and before I knew it, we were knee-deep in crafting. Once we finished the crackers, my mind immediately went to another project inspired by the classic children's book *Snowmen at Night* by Caralyn and Mark Buehner. The story describes how snowmen transform at night, appearing slightly different each morning. This gave me the idea to create a Christmas ornament that would similarly change appearance every time you shook it. To start, we decided to make a snowman ornament using transparent materials. It’s kind of like a mix between a traditional toilet roll snowman and a bauble-style decoration. For this, we used sheets of acetate—clear plastic sheets. I also added a small electric tea light at the bottom for extra charm, though you could simply use tape to secure it instead. Here’s a quick list of what we used: - Acetate sheets - Light source (electric tea light) - Googly eyes - Black craft foam cut into circles - Orange pipe cleaner - Glitter - Sequins For the snowman’s hat, we used felt, a pom-pom, and white cotton wool. Putting this together was surprisingly simple and fun for everyone involved. Now let’s dive into the step-by-step process of making this magical snowman ornament. First, take a small piece of acetate and roll it into a cylindrical shape. Secure it with some sticky tape. Once the base is ready, attach the acetate structure to your light source. Next comes the fun part—decorating your snowman! We used googly eyes and foam circles for the face. Everything was stuck down with double-sided tape. To make the hat, I cut two semi-circles from the felt and glued them together with PVA glue. If your child is older, they might enjoy sewing the hat pieces together instead. Before adding the hat, fill the snowman’s body with glitter and sequins. You can pack it tightly or leave some space depending on your preference. Some people even use salt inside for a unique effect. When you finally hang the ornament on your tree, it looks absolutely enchanting with the light shining through. It almost feels like a mini-snow globe since shaking it creates different patterns every time. Our family loves how it pairs perfectly with our other Christmas decorations, like the bead snowflakes and the snow globe ornaments we’ve collected over the years. If you're looking for more inspiration for your holiday decor, there are plenty of other DIY projects out there. Whether it's making your own stockings or creating handmade wreaths, getting creative during the holidays always adds that personal touch. Let me know if you'd like more ideas! And speaking of creative projects, I recently tried my hand at painting rocks. It’s such a relaxing activity, and you can turn ordinary stones into tiny works of art. If you have any favorite crafts or projects, feel free to share!
