Flash Fusion Frequency Meter / Highlight Scintillator Information

The Flash Fusion Frequency Meter, also known as the Bright Spot Scintillator (Model: HA/BD-II-118), is a specialized instrument used to measure the critical frequency at which flickering light transitions into a steady perception. This phenomenon, called "flash fusion," occurs when the human eye can no longer perceive individual flashes and instead sees a continuous light. The lowest frequency at which this fusion occurs is referred to as the critical fusion frequency (CFF). This measurement is essential for evaluating visual acuity, especially in terms of temporal resolution—the ability to distinguish rapid changes in light. The CFF is influenced by several factors, including the color, intensity, brightness ratio, and background lighting conditions. By adjusting these variables, researchers can study how they affect the visual system’s response. The flash fusion frequency is not only a measure of visual function but also an indicator of mental and physical fatigue. When a person is tired, their CFF tends to decrease, making it a useful tool in psychological and occupational studies. This device is widely used in psychological experiments, personnel selection, and fatigue monitoring. Its design incorporates computerized frequency control, ensuring high precision and stability. The flashing frequency can be adjusted in 0.1Hz increments between 4.0Hz and 60.0Hz, with a digital display showing the value accurately within 0.1Hz. The bright spot features five color options (red, yellow, green, blue, white) and a diameter of φ2mm, with adjustable intensity levels and a fixed observation distance of approximately 500mm. The instrument allows for customization of the brightness-to-black ratio (1:3, 1:1, 3:1) and background light intensity (four levels: full white, 1/4, 1/16, and black). It is compact, measuring 300 × 150 × 250mm, and operates on AC 220V ±10% power with a low consumption of 5W. Proper usage involves turning on the power, adjusting the frequency, selecting the desired settings, and observing the transition from flicker to fusion. Repeating the test around the fusion point helps obtain an accurate average value. To ensure optimal performance, the device should be stored in a dry and well-ventilated area. If unused for extended periods, it should be powered on for at least four hours every three months, or more frequently if humidity is high. This helps maintain internal components and ensures reliable operation. The user interface includes a frequency adjustment knob, a color selector, and controls for brightness, contrast, and background light, making the device both intuitive and versatile for various experimental setups.
