The current domestic paper packaging testing instruments

In the context of sustainable development in the papermaking and packaging industries, the evolution of testing instruments and the establishment of relevant standards are closely intertwined. According to the National Paper Industry Standardization System Catalog, there are approximately 360 types of paper products, with around 160 associated test method standards. Among these, 85 standards focus on physical and mechanical performance testing, while over 50 standard items cover semi-finished and finished raw materials related to cartons. To meet the growing demand for quality inspection of paper and carton products, the market currently requires about 70 varieties of papermaking and packaging testing instruments. The industry's role is to develop and produce specialized equipment and tools. The basic requirements for comprehensive papermaking and packaging testing instruments include several key categories: First, basic property testing equipment for paper and cardboard includes devices for measuring properties like weight, thickness, tightness, moisture, and absorption. These are the most commonly used basic instruments. Examples include digital weight measuring instruments, manual and electric thickness meters, high-precision thickness tightness meters, corrugated board thickness meters, moisture analyzers, absorption testers, and more than 10 different types that meet practical needs. Second, strength performance testing equipment measures physical properties such as tensile, compressive, burst, puncture, tear, flexural, folding fatigue, short-range compression, and internal bond strengths. Instruments like constant-velocity tensile testing machines, electronic tensile testing machines, cardboard and carton compression testers, bursting resistance meters, puncture meters, stiffness meters, and tearing instruments are widely used. With over 30 varieties available, these are the leading and foundational products in the industry. Third, printability testing instruments assess surface smoothness, roughness, and surface strength. These tools are crucial but technically challenging to manufacture. While some models like the Buick smoothness meter and pendulum-type IGT meter are domestically produced, advanced instruments like PPS roughness meters and electric IGT testers are still imported, highlighting a current bottleneck in domestic production. Fourth, special performance testing equipment includes instruments for evaluating breathability, abrasion resistance, brightness, gloss, and color. Though some tools like air permeability meters and gloss meters are already produced locally, others remain dependent on imports, indicating areas for future development. Fifth, auxiliary testing equipment and tools, such as punching devices and support systems, are essential for ensuring accurate test results. Domestic manufacturers have successfully developed a wide range of these tools, meeting most customer needs effectively. Lastly, pulp slurry testing equipment, which falls under laboratory-scale tools, is another area where China lags behind. Although some basic instruments like beating degree meters and freeness meters are available, more advanced equipment remains unproduced, making this a weak link in the domestic industry. In summary, China has developed over 70 varieties of papermaking and packaging testing instruments, yet several dozen types still rely heavily on imports. Addressing these gaps will be a key focus for the industry moving forward.
