Cool DIY: Super Fine 3D Print Battle Robot

American sci-fi blockbusters have always captured the hearts of fans around the world, and every new release tends to generate massive excitement. The "Avengers" series, in particular, has left a huge mark on pop culture, turning superheroes into household names. While many have seen 3D-printed models of Iron Man or even nuclear reactors from the movies, two creative minds—Joe Grundfast and 3D printing enthusiast Mattia Mercante—have taken things to another level. This time, instead of recreating Iron Man or any of his tech, they chose a beloved but less commonly featured Marvel character: the War Machine. Though not as famous as Tony Stark’s armored alter ego, War Machine has its own unique charm and has made a strong impression in the Marvel universe. Their project was an impressive tribute to this iconic character. Mattia Mercante used a Form 1+ 3D printer, which he previously used to create a detailed bear model. This time, he tackled the War Machine with incredible precision. He printed the model using black resin and then applied water-based paint along with a dry brush technique to bring out the fine details. The final model stood at 45 cm tall, consisting of 46 individual parts that were carefully assembled. Additionally, he printed over 30 bullets and attached them to the model for added realism. The result is nothing short of stunning. For the base, he used an FDM fused deposition printer to create the rocky foundation. The rest of the model, including the head, was printed with the Form 1+ at different layer thicknesses—0.5 mm for the head and 0.1 mm for the rest. The entire project took 98 hours to print, plus an additional 67.5 hours for the rock base. The attention to detail and dedication to the craft truly shine through in the final product. From the intricate armor to the realistic textures and painted finishes, this War Machine model is a testament to the power of 3D printing and the passion of its creators.
