Test procedure for rubber materials for heat aging test

The national standard GB/T 17782-1999 outlines the detailed procedure for conducting air heat aging tests on vulcanized rubber materials. The following are the key requirements:

1. Once the heat aging test chamber has reached the designated working temperature, the samples should be suspended vertically inside the pressure vessel. To minimize the risk of migration or contamination of the rubber compounds, it is recommended to avoid testing different formulations in the same container whenever possible.

2. As soon as the sample is placed into the preheated container, the container must be closed immediately, and the aging time should start once the pressure reaches 550 kPa. This entire process should not take longer than 3 minutes. The time interval between the start of the aging time calculation and when the container reaches 125°C should be recorded. If this interval exceeds 5% of the total test duration, the test time should be adjusted by adding half of the interval to account for the discrepancy.

3. When the test time is completed, the sample must be removed from the container only after slowly releasing the internal pressure to atmospheric levels for at least 5 minutes. This step helps prevent the formation of bubbles within the sample. Afterward, the sample should be taken out immediately and placed on a flat surface to cool down to room temperature. It is important to note that the sample must not undergo any mechanical, chemical, or thermal treatment after removal from the container.

This standardized procedure ensures consistent and reliable results during the heat aging test, allowing for accurate evaluation of the material's performance under prolonged thermal stress. Proper adherence to these steps is essential for maintaining the integrity of the test and obtaining meaningful data.
