Effects of urinary natriuretic peptide on K +, Na + and H + flow velocity and spatial distribution in Arabidopsis roots

Plant urinary natriuretic peptides (PNPs) belong to a new class of mobile molecules that are structurally similar to the N-terminus of patulin and can affect many physiological processes. For example, the volume of protoplasts can be adjusted at nM concentration. How PNPs regulate plant growth and development is elucidated by the size and spatial distribution of ion currents. Australian scientist Shabala et al. Used non-invasive micro-testing techniques to study how a recombinant urinary natriuretic peptide AtPNP-A affects the flow rate of K +, Na + and H + in the roots of Arabidopsis thaliana. The ion currents are very different and behave differently after AtPNP-A treatment. H + in the elongation zone showed rapid influx after treatment with 150 ng / mL AtPNP-A, but there was no significant change in the mature zone. AtPNP-A induces a large amount of K + and Na + outflow, and this effect only occurs in mature areas. It shows that the elongation zone and the mature zone have different responses to AtPNP-A. The adjustment effect of AtPNP-A is not only related to the size of ion current, but also to the spatial distribution of ion current. The results suggest that the plant response to AtPNP-A is tissue-specific in plant growth and balance. AtPNP-A does not affect the activity of cells and is a polypeptide that has no obvious toxicity to cells, but can promote the development of plants. This research is of great significance for us to understand the regulatory effect of peptides through the characteristics of ion current sensitivity and speed.
