Nursing Reagents-Japan has developed an instrument for analyzing the source of fine particles in the air Japan Marine Research and Development Agency and the University of Tokyo have announced that they have developed a device that can analyze fine particles with high accuracy and speed. The new device can not only analyze more than 8 kinds of fine particles in the air in 15 minutes, but also determine its source. This new device uses an air pump to suck air containing fine particles, and then uses two types of laser irradiation to determine its composition based on the color of light emitted. The new device can distinguish whether fine particulate matter comes from exhaust gas from thermal power stations, automobiles, etc., or dust. After investigating the composition of the fine particles, the researchers combined with meteorological data such as wind direction and wind force to determine whether the fine particles came from Japan or abroad through computer analysis. In addition, the new device only takes about 15 minutes from collecting fine particles to analyzing the components. At present, the fine particle sampling and analysis process takes one day. Japan Marine Research and Development Agency hopes that this device will be popularized in Japan to promote relevant departments to take effective measures to deal with air pollution.
