Produced the world's longest high-temperature superconducting cable up to 500 meters

Japan's Furukawa Electric has announced that it has manufactured the longest high-temperature superconducting cable in the world, with a length of 500 meters.
The company said that such a long cable can be laid once between existing underground pipelines and its transmission capacity is six times that of existing transmission cables. The longest such cable to date is only about 100 meters.
The development of a longer high-temperature superconducting cable is one of the key projects of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. This newly manufactured long cable will be laid in the Yokosuka Research Institute and a one-year validation experiment will begin in the spring of 2004.
