The Integration of Chinese Traditional Patterns in Packaging Design

[Abstract] The application of Chinese traditional pattern patterns to modern packaging design to reveal the cultural connotation and personality of products is a problem that packaging designers need to think about. In the article, several typical patterns of Chinese traditional patterns are described: bronze patterns, colored pottery patterns, tile patterns, Chinese painting bricks, and Fang Shengping. Examples are given for their application in packaging design.

The modern packaging design is not only limited to the visual beauty of packaging, but also focuses more on whether or not the content of the product is perfectly displayed. China has a long history of cultural traditions. How to accurately use these outstanding cultural traditions in modern packaging design and make modern packaging works with Chinese characteristics is an issue that we have always been concerned about. Packaging professionals should have an in-depth study and understanding of Chinese traditional culture and master the essence of it so as to be able to do a great job in design.

In the nationalized packaging, the traditional pattern is a common decoration technique in the packaging and decoration design. It plays a subtle and artistic effect in displaying the national style. For example, Fang Shengping, Zhu Wei, Turtle, Ji Xing Jin, Shui Zi Long, Moi Wen, Qi Wen used as shading and borders, as well as painted pottery patterns, Han painting bricks, bronze patterns, etc. The algae maps are all typical patterns of the Chinese nation. In many books, there are no detailed descriptions of these traditional pattern patterns, which is inconvenient for designers to apply these pattern patterns. Therefore, the author will explain and explain several typical patterns of Chinese traditional patterns and explain them to them. The application is a simple example.

1 Several typical patterns of Chinese traditional patterns

1.1 Brass Pattern

The bronze ware is an object that embodies the power and hierarchy of China's slavery society. It not only has a high value in itself, but also in ancient people's cultural ideology, these bronze wares have been endowed with sacred power and have a supreme status. This can be found in many unearthed artifacts. Brass ornaments are often decorated on the belly, neck, lid, and foot of the device. The content of ornamentation can be roughly divided into three categories: animals, figures, and geometric shapes. Among them, animal patterns are applied most. There are 2 kinds of animal patterns, one is a strange deformation, a virtual monster pattern, such as python pattern, dragon pattern, phoenix pattern, python pattern; the other is a natural animal, such as: elephant pattern, fish pattern, python pattern , deer, moire and so on. Character patterns are mainly feast music, hunting and battle patterns. Geometric patterns mainly include cloud, grain, grain, scale, ring, and heavy ring patterns.

The common pattern of bronzes is a patterned animal face. It is also called animal face pattern. The name “饕餮和和古博” was first used in the Song Dynasty. He is a legendary gluttonous animal, and metaphorically greedy and vicious. The surface shape of the bronze ware has many changes. It is generally expressed as a horizontal eyebrow split, a wide nose, and an odd image. Some eyebrows stand upright, some have an eyebrow shape, and some resemble a cow head shape. Most of the composition is centered on the nose and symmetrical. As shown in Figure 1.
